Nothing matters more to a parent than their relationship with their children. When parents cannot agree on custody or parenting time, a New York court will decide based on the best interests of the child. We help parents present their case clearly and persuasively, while keeping the children’s well-being at the center.
Matters we handle
- Legal custody. The right to make major decisions about a child’s education, health care and religious upbringing, whether joint or sole.
- Physical custody and parenting schedules. Where the child lives and the time each parent spends with them, including holidays, school breaks and travel.
- Relocation. When a parent wants to move with the child to another state or country, or opposes such a move.
- International issues. Travel abroad with children, concerns about a child being taken overseas without consent, and cases involving parents or family in China or other countries.
- Modification. Changing an existing order when circumstances have changed significantly.
- Enforcement. When the other parent does not follow the custody or visitation order.
Our approach
Custody cases depend on evidence of each parent’s involvement, stability and ability to support the child’s relationship with the other parent. We help you gather that evidence, prepare for interviews with forensic evaluators and the attorney for the child, and present your case with credibility.
Where possible, we pursue a parenting plan agreed by both sides, which is almost always better for children than a court-imposed decision. When agreement is not possible, we advocate for you firmly in court.
