Estate Planning, Probate & Personal Wealth

Wills, trusts and personal wealth planning that protect your family, plus steady guidance through probate and, when necessary, probate litigation.

The wealth you build, whether a family home, a business or savings earned over decades, deserves a plan as carefully made as the effort that created it. Without one, New York law decides who inherits, who takes charge of your affairs and who raises your minor children. Your family may face months in Surrogate’s Court, avoidable taxes, and disputes that divide them for years.

At Ankaa Law, estate planning is a core practice. We work with families, business owners and individuals with assets both in the United States and abroad to put a clear, legally sound plan in place, and we stand beside families when an estate has to pass through the courts.

How we represent you

  • We start with your family, not a form. Every plan begins with a conversation about who depends on you, what you own and where, and what worries you most.
  • We plan for the whole picture. Real estate, closely held businesses, retirement accounts, life insurance and overseas assets are coordinated so that nothing falls through the gaps.
  • We explain in plain language, in English or Chinese. You will understand what every document does before you sign it.
  • We stay with you. Plans are reviewed as your life changes: marriage, children, a new business, a move, or a change in the law.
  • When disputes arise, we litigate. If a will is challenged or a fiduciary fails in their duties, our team represents you in Surrogate’s Court.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ankaa Law an estate planning law firm in New York?

Yes. Estate planning is a core practice of Ankaa Law P.C. The firm drafts wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney and health care proxies, handles probate and estate administration in Surrogate's Court, and represents clients in probate litigation.

Do I need a will or a trust in New York?

It depends on your family and assets. A will names who inherits and who cares for minor children, but must go through probate. A revocable living trust can avoid probate and provides for management if you become incapacitated. Ankaa Law P.C. publishes a free New York Trust Series explaining the options.

Does Ankaa Law help families with assets in China or other countries?

Yes. Ankaa Law P.C. works with cross-border families in English and Chinese, coordinating U.S. wills and trusts with assets and family members overseas, including estate tax planning for non-U.S. owners of U.S. assets.

What is the New York estate tax cliff?

New York taxes estates above its exclusion amount ($7,350,000 in 2026). If a taxable estate exceeds the exclusion by more than 5%, the exclusion is lost entirely and the whole estate is taxed. Families with assets near this level can often reduce or avoid the tax with advance planning.
